Porchettiamo, in its 3rd year (May 6th – 8th, 2011), takes place in San Terenziano, a charming village in Umbria, the green heart of Italy.
Porchettiamo is the festival of the Italian "porchetta, a typical and delicious food, rich in history, both noble and popular, which has always been the street-, square-, fair- and market-food.
The porchette have been carefully selected according to quality, craftsmanship and authenticity. The pork was traditionally the animal butchered and salted down to be eaten throughout the year. "If you want to feel well all the year, butcher a pork", said an ancient proverb. The porchetta, on the other hand, is only cooked during the summer, for a one-day banquet. Since the seventeenth century, in a lot of central Italian regions, the baked porchetta was always present to celebrate the Sabbath.
This is a ideal event to taste the porchette coming from the different Italian regions all in one day. A route which goes through villages, towns, regions and styles, both sharing deep root but different in a number of small and large peculiarities. All that in a merry atmosphere, with great wines, thanks to the wine bar of the Strada del Sagrantino, the best Italian handcrafted beers, good music and amusing street entertainments. Porchettiamo was created to develop the history and taste of the porchetta, produced in several different towns, which has become over the years home of this very ancient Italian tradition.
Porchettiamo is a cultural and gastronomic event, not a simple business operation.
